Screen use Ana Ines Ansaldo, principal investigator and full professor at the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) and her team of researchers from the CRIUGM and Concordia University detain New Frontiers in Research fund for the development of evidence-based technological tools adapted to the complexity of the long-term care (LTC) environment. More specifically, this research program focuses on the use of screens to aid communication and counter social isolation among long-term care residents.
Objectives This research program has a triple objective, namely to: 1) To better understand the impact of screen content on the social engagement of LTC residents, 2) to develop valid and ecological viewing environments according to the living environment of the individuals, 3) to create a catalog of films adapted to foster social engagement and reduce behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
Human and Artificial Intelligence Combining human expertise and artificial intelligence, this innovative research program will enable the development of non-pharmacological and customizable interventions to aid communication and foster social engagement and BPSD reduction in people living in LTCCs, while helping to alleviate the burden on professional and informal caregivers.
